How to rotate PDF pages

How PDF page rotation works

A PDF page can contain an existing rotation value. ToolHub normalizes that value and updates page rotation metadata with the bundled pdf-lib runtime. This keeps supported text, vector graphics and images as PDF content instead of rasterizing the page.

PDF.js is loaded only when a rendered page preview is required. The final operation itself changes page orientation metadata.

PDF rotation example

A scanned report has pages 2 to 4 sideways. Select the range 2-4 and rotate it clockwise by 90 degrees. Pages 1 and 5 onward remain unchanged.

Rotate all pages or only selected pages?

Use all pages when a complete scan has the same wrong orientation. Odd or even selection helps with duplex scans where one side was captured incorrectly. Individual controls are best for a document with mixed portrait and landscape pages.

Rotation is not deskewing

Rotation changes the page by 90-degree steps. It does not straighten a page scanned at a small angle, crop empty borders or detect text orientation automatically. A tilted scan needs a separate deskew or image-editing workflow.

Important limitations

  • Interactive data: forms and annotations may not be preserved in the new file.
  • Protection: encrypted or malformed PDFs may be rejected.
  • Page size: rotation does not resize or crop the page box.
  • Review: check individual pages when the source mixes orientations.

Can I rotate only one PDF page?

Yes. Use the individual-page selection and apply rotation only to the required page.

Can I rotate odd or even pages?

Yes. Odd and even selection is available for documents such as incorrectly oriented duplex scans.

Does rotating a PDF reduce quality?

The tool updates supported page rotation metadata rather than converting normal pages into images.

Will rotation straighten a tilted scan?

No. It rotates in right-angle steps and does not deskew or crop scanned content.

Can I rotate password-protected PDFs?

Protected files may not allow processing. Use an authorized, unprotected copy.

Is the file uploaded?

No. Page preview and output creation occur locally in the browser.
