Base64 Encoder & Decoder
Encode Unicode text or local files as Standard Base64 or Base64URL. Decode valid Base64 back to readable UTF-8 text or reconstruct a downloadable binary file.

Your text and files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded or stored by this tool.
Input, output and selected files remain in browser memory. Base64 is encoding, not encryption, and provides no secrecy.
How to encode or decode Base64
- 1
Choose encode or decode mode.
- 2
Select text or file input.
- 3
Choose Standard Base64 or Base64URL.
- 4
Run the operation and review validation messages.
- 5
Copy text output or download reconstructed binary data with the correct file details.
What Base64 encoding does
Base64 represents binary bytes with a limited set of printable characters. It is commonly used inside data formats, email attachments and APIs that need text-safe transport. Encoded data is larger than the original and anyone can decode it.
Base64 example
The UTF-8 text Hello encodes as SGVsbG8=. Decoding that value returns the original text.
Standard Base64 versus Base64URL
Standard Base64 uses plus and slash characters and commonly includes equals-sign padding. Base64URL replaces those characters with hyphen and underscore so the output is easier to place in URL-safe contexts, and padding is often omitted.
Unicode text and files
ToolHub uses TextEncoder and TextDecoder so Arabic, Urdu, emoji and accented characters round-trip as UTF-8. File mode works with raw bytes. When decoding a file, choose the correct MIME type and filename extension so the downloaded data is interpreted properly.
Important limitations
- Not encryption: Base64 does not hide sensitive information.
- Validation: invalid alphabet characters or padding cause decode errors.
- File size: local file processing is limited to 10 MB.
- Integrity: Base64 does not prove that data is authentic or unchanged; use a checksum or signature where needed.

Base64 Encoder & Decoder FAQ
Is Base64 encryption?
No. It is a reversible encoding format and offers no confidentiality.
What is Base64URL?
It replaces URL-sensitive characters and often omits padding for safer use in URL components.
Can I encode Unicode text?
Yes. Text is converted as UTF-8, supporting Arabic, Urdu, emoji and accented characters.
Can I encode or decode files?
Yes, for supported local files within the 10 MB limit.
Why does Base64 output end with equals signs?
Equals signs are padding used when the source byte length does not align with complete Base64 groups.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Encoding and decoding run locally in your browser.
