JSON & CSV Converter

Convert object arrays and quoted CSV locally, with explicit nesting and spreadsheet-safety options.

Input and options
Prefix formula-like cells with an apostrophe.
Off preserves cell strings, including identifiers with leading zeroes.

How this tool works and limits

JSON root must be an array of objects; columns follow first-seen key order. Nested arrays remain JSON strings; dotted-object flattening rejects collisions. CSV supports quoted multiline fields, doubled quotes, LF/CRLF and UTF-8 BOM. Ragged rows are retained with empty/generated columns and warnings; duplicate headers receive unique suffixes. Cells stay strings by default. Optional inference converts true/false/null and finite decimal numbers without leading zeroes or unsafe integer precision. Formula safety is off by default for exact data: risky initial =,+,-,@,*,tabs/newlines trigger a warning; explicit safe mode prefixes an apostrophe, including headers. Limits: 10 MB input, 100,000 rows, 1,000 columns, 500,000 cells, nesting depth 30, 32 MB output, 8-second worker timeout.

How to use the JSON and CSV converter

  1. 1

Choose JSON to CSV or CSV to JSON.

  2. 2

Select comma, semicolon, tab or pipe as the delimiter.

  3. 3

Paste data or load a local text file.

  4. 4

Choose flattening, header, type-inference and spreadsheet-safety options as needed.

  5. 5

Convert, review warnings and copy or download the result.

JSON-to-CSV example

The JSON array [{“name”:”Ana”,”city”:”Lahore”},{“name”:”Omar”,”city”:”Dubai”}] becomes a CSV header row of name, city, followed by Ana,Lahore and Omar,Dubai. If a value contains a comma, quote or line break, the serializer quotes it and doubles embedded quotation marks.

Requirements for JSON to CSV

The JSON root must be an array of objects. Column order follows the first appearance of each property across the rows. Missing or null values become empty CSV cells. Nested objects can be flattened into dotted paths, while arrays and other object values are serialized as JSON text. A flattened-name collision returns an error instead of silently overwriting data.

How CSV to JSON is parsed

The CSV parser supports quoted fields, escaped quotation marks and line breaks inside quotes. The first row can be treated as headers. Duplicate headers receive unique suffixes, missing header names are generated, and uneven rows produce a warning. Optional type inference recognizes conservative numbers, true, false and null while preserving values that could lose precision.

Spreadsheet formula safety

Cells beginning with characters such as =, +, -, @ or * can be interpreted as formulas by spreadsheet software. The tool detects formula-like cells. Spreadsheet-Safe CSV prefixes them with an apostrophe, which reduces that risk but intentionally changes the cell text. Exact mode preserves original values and shows a warning. Treat untrusted CSV carefully even after conversion.

Important limitations

  • Input and output: input is limited to 10 MB and generated output to 32 MB.
  • Data size: limits include 100,000 data rows, 1,000 columns and 500,000 cells.
  • JSON shape: primitive arrays and a single root object are not accepted for JSON-to-CSV.
  • Schema: the tool does not validate business rules, field types or database constraints.
  • Encoding: results use text formats and do not create native Excel XLSX files.

JSON & CSV Converter FAQ

What JSON structure can be converted to CSV?

The root must be an array and every item must be a non-null object.

Does the CSV parser support commas inside a field?

Yes. Properly quoted fields can contain delimiters, quotation marks and line breaks.

Can nested JSON objects be flattened?

Yes. Flatten mode creates dotted property paths and reports collisions.

What does type inference do?

It conservatively converts eligible CSV strings to numbers, booleans or null in JSON output.

What is Spreadsheet-Safe CSV?

It prefixes detected formula-like cells with apostrophes, changing their text to reduce spreadsheet formula execution risk.

Does the tool create an Excel file?

No. It creates CSV or JSON text that can be downloaded and opened in compatible software.
