Pixels, percentage and aspect ratio
Pixel dimensions describe the exact width and height of an image. Percentage resizing scales from the original size. Keeping the same width-to-height ratio avoids distortion. For example, reducing a 2400 × 1600 photo to 1200 × 800 keeps its 3:2 aspect ratio.
Fit, Fill/Crop and Stretch explained
- Fit: keeps the entire image inside the target box and may leave unused space.
- Fill/Crop: fills the target box while trimming parts of the longer dimension.
- Stretch: forces exact dimensions without preserving proportions and can distort the subject.
Image-resizing example
A 2400 × 1600 product photo resized to 1200 × 800 becomes half the width and height while keeping the same shape. Choosing a 1080 × 1080 Fill/Crop preset creates a square by trimming the wider sides.
Does resizing reduce file size in KB?
Smaller dimensions often reduce file size because fewer pixels are stored, but an exact target such as 20 KB, 200 KB or 500 KB is not guaranteed. Output format, quality, transparency and image detail also affect the final number. Use Image Compressor when file size is the main goal.
Upscaling and output limitations
Making an image larger cannot recreate detail that was not in the source, so upscaled images may look soft or pixelated. JPEG does not support transparency; choose a background when exporting a transparent source to JPEG. WebP export depends on browser encoder support.

Image Resizer FAQ
Can I resize an image to exact pixels?
Yes. Enter the required width and height, then choose the behavior that should apply when aspect ratios differ.
How do I resize without stretching?
Use Fit to keep the full image or Fill/Crop to fill the target shape while preserving proportions.
Can this resize an image to 200 KB?
It resizes dimensions, but an exact KB target is not guaranteed. Use Image Compressor for more direct file-size control.
Does enlarging an image improve quality?
No. Upscaling adds pixels but cannot recreate missing source detail.
Can I resize transparent PNG files?
Yes. Keep PNG or another transparency-capable output if the transparent background must remain.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Decoding, canvas resizing and export happen locally in the browser.
