How PDF-to-image rendering works

The bundled PDF.js worker draws each selected page to a browser Canvas. The Canvas is then encoded in the chosen image format. Pages are processed sequentially to control memory use.

Requested resolution is reduced automatically when necessary to remain within the tool’s 8,192-pixel and 20-megapixel per-page limits. That prevents extremely large pages from overwhelming common browsers.

PDF-to-JPG example

Convert pages 1 to 3 of a brochure to JPEG. The tool creates three image files and packages them into one ZIP so the complete selection can be downloaded once.

JPG, PNG or WebP?

  • JPG: usually smaller for photographs, but it uses lossy compression.
  • PNG: keeps sharp edges and supports transparency, but can be larger.
  • WebP: can offer efficient output when the browser encoder supports it.

Resolution, quality and file size

Higher resolution produces more pixels and usually a larger file. JPEG quality controls compression after rendering. Choose enough detail for the intended screen or print size rather than using the highest setting automatically.

Important limitations

The output images do not contain selectable PDF text, links, forms or vector data. Password-protected or malformed PDFs may be rejected. Keep the source PDF because converting back from an image will not restore the original document structure.
