How the random password generator works
The generator uses the browser’s crypto.getRandomValues() function. Rejection sampling avoids modulo bias when random values are mapped to the selected character pool. It never falls back to Math.random().
The page also shows the available character-pool size and an estimated entropy value based on the selected settings. Entropy is a mathematical estimate, not a guarantee against every attack or account compromise.
Password example
Select a length of 20 and allow uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. Generate a unique result, store it in a password manager and do not reuse it for another account.
Choosing 8, 10, 12 or 16 characters
Always follow the account’s stated minimum and maximum rules. Longer random passwords normally create more possible combinations than shorter ones using the same character pool. Where supported, prefer a longer unique password instead of reusing a familiar short one.
Required and excluded characters
Required characters help satisfy a policy that demands at least one symbol, number or specific character. Exclusions can remove characters that look similar, such as O and 0. Every restriction reduces the available pool, so avoid unnecessary limits.
Important password safety notes
- Unique passwords: use a different password for every important account.
- Password manager: store long random values instead of keeping them in an unprotected note.
- Multi-factor authentication: enable it when the account offers a suitable method.
- Clipboard: copied passwords can remain in clipboard history on some devices.
This tool generates random character-based passwords. It is not a word-based passphrase generator and does not check whether a password has appeared in a breach.
